TULUM — The exchange of pet food for endemic plants marked the second "Croquetón" event in the municipality of Tulum, an activity focused on promoting animal welfare and citizen participation in environmental care.
During the event, residents donated food intended for animals in vulnerable situations, receiving in return plants native to the region. This strategy seeks to simultaneously promote the protection of pets and the conservation of the natural environment.
The participation scheme stipulated that for every two kilograms of dog food donated, citizens could receive a native plant. The initiative aims to encourage support for abandoned dogs and cats while promoting reforestation with species adapted to the local ecosystem.
In addition to the pet food exchange, the event included the distribution of pet beds made from recycled tires. These structures allow for the reuse of tires that could otherwise become breeding grounds for mosquitoes by accumulating water and facilitating the reproduction of the dengue-carrying mosquito.
The recycled beds also provide a resting space for dogs and cats, contributing to the well-being of pets and promoting waste management practices.
According to the organizers, the Croquetón is part of a series of activities that take place every two months in the municipality. The aim is to strengthen the culture of animal care and generate environmental awareness among the population.
The initiative integrates actions related to recycling, the protection of domestic animals, and the promotion of healthier spaces within the community. It links municipal departments with citizens interested in participating in activities of collective benefit.
This type of program seeks to strengthen social co-responsibility in matters of public health, animal protection, and environmental preservation. It does so through participation mechanisms that combine donation, recycling, and reforestation within the municipality of Tulum.
