Cancún, Quintana Roo — The fourth edition of Paseo Cancunense, a community event aimed at fostering family-friendly recreation in the city center, drew significant public participation, solidifying its place as a recurring monthly initiative. Cancún Mayor Ana Paty Peralta announced that the event will now be held permanently on the first Sunday of each month, with the next installment scheduled for June 2.
A Permanent Fixture for Community Engagement
During the event’s launch, Mayor Peralta emphasized the enthusiastic response from residents. "This space where Cancún’s families come together is here to stay. We are making it official with a fixed schedule—the first Sunday of every month, with the next one on June 2," she stated.
The event, which runs from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., spans Bonampak, Uxmal, and Nader avenues, temporarily closed to vehicular traffic to prioritize pedestrians and cyclists. Security personnel from the Municipal Transit and Public Safety departments were deployed to ensure safety throughout the day.
Activities and Cultural Showcases
Early in the morning, families gathered to enjoy a variety of recreational offerings. The day began with a Wushu demonstration, a Chinese martial arts discipline, followed by a procession led by Mayor Peralta and local roller-skating athletes, including Victoria Marín, María Morales, and Victoria Gameba.
The event featured multiple attractions, such as:
- Mobility ADO’s Interactive City
- AdoptaFest (pet adoption initiative)
- Expo-Plantas (plant exhibition)
- Puppet theater
- Book exchanges
- Road safety workshops
Mayor Peralta encouraged continued public participation, highlighting the event’s role in promoting cultural expression and community bonding.
Paseo Cancunense continues to strengthen its appeal as a staple of Cancún’s civic calendar, offering residents a car-free space for leisure and social interaction.
