PLAYA DEL CARMEN, Quintana Roo — The first Festival del Jocho Chetumaleño, part of the inaugural edition of the Noches del Carmen event series, drew a crowd of more than 6,000 people over its two-day run. The event, dubbed "Chetumal llega a las Noches del Carmen," gathered approximately 3,000 attendees on Saturday and slightly more than that number on Sunday.
The municipal president, Estefanía Mercado, promoted the event by declaring the Chetumal-style "jochos" as "the best in the world." She invited the public to attend the festival on September 6 and 7, starting at 5:00 p.m. in the Parque Fundadores, which served as the stage for the first edition of Noches del Carmen.
"Enjoy the traditional music and dance of Chetumal, and be a part of the first Festival del Jocho Chetumaleño, where you can try a great variety of jochos and choose the winners," added Mercado.
She stated, "You cannot miss this! We await you to live this unique and new experience in Playa del Carmen," and indicated that the final results of the first Festival del Jocho Chetumaleño would be announced on Monday.
Regarding the future of the Noches del Carmen series, the municipal president noted that there will be different ways to celebrate. "This weekend it was the jochos, and for the next Saturday and Sunday we will see what to do, but that there will be something, there is no doubt."
