Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — More than 5,000 children celebrated Children’s Day in a vibrant festival of color and excitement at the iconic Plaza 28 de Julio. The event, organized by the Playa del Carmen City Council under the leadership of Mayor Estefanía Mercado and in coordination with the Municipal DIF System, brought together families for a day of music, dance, and surprises.
A Celebration of Joy and Community
Mayor Estefanía Mercado addressed the children, recognizing them as the driving force behind the city’s present and future. “Seeing the smiles of our boys and girls fills us with joy. They are the inspiration that guides our daily work for a fairer city with more opportunities for everyone,” she said.
The festivities featured performances by “La Vaca Lola” and the musical group “Jair y su Son Latino,” who entertained families with lively music and dance in a safe and festive environment.
Interactive Learning and Civic Engagement
For the first time, municipal departments such as Civil Protection, Firefighters, Public Safety, Citizen Participation, Public Services, Youth, Sports, and the Municipal Health Secretariat set up interactive booths. Children had the opportunity to learn about the work these agencies do to protect the community, sparking admiration among those who dream of serving the city in uniform.
“Today, more than 5,000 children are enjoying a great party in the heart of Playa del Carmen. Our firefighters, police officers, and public service heroes are here because this government builds joy with social justice,” Mayor Mercado stated.
Inclusive and Accessible Celebrations
The event also included free distribution of food, drinks, and desserts for all families, ensuring an inclusive and dignified celebration in line with the values of the Fourth Transformation.
Mayor Mercado, accompanied by DIF honorary president Eduardo Asencio, Deputy María José Osorio, and Deputy Renán Sánchez, toured the booths, interacted with children, and participated in recreational activities.
To guarantee broad participation, the City Council provided free transportation from neighborhoods and communities, reaffirming its commitment to inclusion, child welfare, and the revitalization of public spaces as centers of unity, peace, and happiness.
In Playa del Carmen, childhood is celebrated with love, equality, and hope—because there can be no true transformation without happy children.
