Playa del Carmen, MX. – More than 50 LP gas trucks were operating in Playa del Carmen without the corresponding permits, revealed Municipal Civil Protection Secretary Darwin Covarrubias following verification operations implemented in the municipality.
The official explained that only 14 units had their documentation in order, a situation that came to light after inspections intensified on trucks belonging to various gas distribution companies that provide service in the city.
He recalled that it was in November 2025 when the City Council began reviewing gas companies, detecting 19 LP gas agencies, of which only 13 had safety clearance. Subsequently, the operation was expanded to directly inspect the trucks circulating in the municipality.
Covarrubias indicated that these operations aim to prevent accidents and reduce risks for the population, so Civil Protection personnel were also deployed at city access checkpoints to verify units coming from other municipalities.
He stated that to provide service in Playa del Carmen, the trucks must have the corresponding municipal authorization, and warned that units that are not regularized are removed from circulation as a safety measure.
