Cancún, Quintana Roo — Construction of the long-awaited Nichupté Bridge in Cancún is nearly complete, with officials announcing the structure is 94.2% finished and on track for inauguration in early 2026. The project aims to significantly improve mobility and reduce chronic traffic congestion in the popular tourist destination.
Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama confirmed the progress in a social media post, stating that the final structural piece of the bridge has been placed. Only minor finishing work, such as painting and signage installation, remains before the bridge opens to the public.
The 11-kilometer bridge will feature three lanes, dedicated bicycle paths, lighting, and signage. It will stretch from Kukulkan Boulevard to the hotel zone, passing over the Nichupté Lagoon without impacting the ecosystem. Authorities also plan to introduce two public transport routes that will cross the bridge, providing access for residents and visitors without private vehicles.
Officials expect to inaugurate the bridge between March and April 2026. It will be free for all users. The project, a flagship infrastructure initiative for the region, is designed to address daily traffic bottlenecks caused by the constant flow of tourists heading to hotels and locals commuting to work in the area.
