Cancun, Quintana Roo — A newborn baby was found abandoned inside a trash container in the early hours of Monday, May 18, in Cancun’s Paraiso Maya neighborhood.

According to initial reports, a woman collecting scrap metal discovered the infant around 2:00 a.m. while searching for cans in the trash. She heard the baby crying, pulled him out, and immediately called 911.

Paramedics from a private company, along with municipal police officers and personnel from the Specialized Group for Attention to Family and Gender Violence (Geavig), arrived at the scene. They provided first aid and secured the infant.

The newborn was taken to the Dr. Jesus Kumate Rodriguez General Hospital, where he remains under medical care. Agents from the Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office have launched an investigation to locate the mother and determine the circumstances of the abandonment.

Authorities have not released information on the baby’s condition or reported any arrests in connection with the case.
