Cancún, Mexico — The Gicsa Group and Liverpool have initiated the procedures to obtain the construction license and environmental approval for the Galerías Cancún shopping mall project, located in the city’s southern polygon. This was confirmed by the Secretary of Ecology and Urban Development of Benito Juárez, Nahielli Orozco Lozano.
The project is currently in development, advancing the necessary permits for its construction. Its opening is scheduled for 2027, according to the firm Iq Real State, which is in charge of the commercialization of the retail spaces. The project seeks to consolidate the commercial offering in one of Cancún’s fastest-growing zones.
Furthermore, it promises to become a commercial landmark in the city of Cancún, with an area of 80,000 square meters at the intersection of Avenida Chacmol and Mallorca.
The strategic location of the shopping mall in Cancún’s southern polygon will allow it to meet the growing demand for services in this area, while ensuring compliance with environmental and urban regulations.
“VíaMarina” Project in Cancún Shut Down
The Benito Juárez City Council shut down the “VíaMarina” project, a 30-hectare real estate development that involved 10 irregular subdivisions. This is one of the largest real estate developments that municipal authorities have intervened in since October 2023. It was promoted by the company “Colorines” following a citizen complaint that revealed its illegality.
The Secretary of Ecology and Urban Development, Nahielli Orozco Lozano, reported that this project was situated in a zone of high environmental conservation, where it is not possible to guarantee basic services or urban infrastructure. Additionally, it lacked municipal, state, and federal permits in matters of urban development.
The land is located in the so-called “Bosques de Cancún,” inland from the area where the “Kulkana” developments are found, which complicated its detection.
