Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The newly elected administration of Playa del Carmen’s ejido commission will assume office on July 3 with a primary objective: recovering between 32 and 35 hectares of land that have been illegally occupied, according to Cecilio Puc Sansores, the incoming president of the ejidal governing body.

Puc Sansores confirmed that legal proceedings, supported by federal, state, and municipal authorities, are already underway to restore ownership of the disputed properties. The lands in question are backed by documented legal claims filed with judicial authorities. The process remains ongoing and is expected to proceed in accordance with the law.

The Playa del Carmen ejido spans 21,000 hectares and consists of 176 active ejidatarios (communal landholders). Puc Sansores emphasized that the legal protocols for the administrative transition have been completed before a notary public, leaving only the formal handover on July 2 and 3 pending.

Beyond land recovery, the new administration is committed to ensuring the lawful and sustainable use of the ejido’s resources for the benefit of its rightful owners and the broader community.
