Cancún, Quintana Roo — A new air route connecting Cancún and Acapulco will launch on April 2, linking two of Mexico’s most popular tourist destinations through Viva Aerobus flights.

Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama announced the new connection, which will operate on Thursdays and Sundays with flights that include stops in Monterrey, Nuevo León. No direct flights are currently available between the two coastal cities.

The route was first announced during the FITUR 2026 tourism fair, where Quintana Roo officials revealed several new air connections designed to boost tourism to the Caribbean coast. These new routes are expected to support economic development and increase business revenue throughout the state.

“These new arrivals support the development of cities and the state’s economic spillover that will increase the earnings of businesses,” officials stated, noting that over one million visitors are expected during the upcoming Easter holiday period.

Ticket prices for the Cancún-Acapulco route range from 3,955 to 6,392 Mexican pesos, depending on travel dates, times, and layover durations. Travelers can book flights through the Viva Aerobus website, where the airline is offering competitive pricing and member discounts to promote travel between the two destinations.

Travel experts recommend several strategies for finding cheaper flights on this and other routes: search during early morning or late night hours, book night flights which tend to be more economical, opt for express layovers that don’t require leaving the aircraft, and purchase tickets at least six months in advance to secure better prices.
