Cancun, Quintana Roo — A dramatic three-vehicle crash on Kabah Avenue in Cancun left one car overturned and the suspected driver in custody Monday night.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Kabah and Niños Héroes avenues in the city’s Region 228, according to initial reports.
Police said the driver of a Ford Mustang was traveling on Kabah Avenue from Leona Vicario toward 20 de Noviembre Avenue when he attempted to change lanes to avoid a stopped public bus. He swerved into the lane of a Nissan Tsuru, striking it on the side. The impact caused the Tsuru’s driver to lose control, mount the median, and overturn.
The Mustang then careened into a parked Volkswagen Polo, leaving all three vehicles damaged.
Paramedics, firefighters, and traffic officers responded to the scene and treated the drivers involved. None required hospitalization, as injuries were reported as minor.
Traffic was temporarily closed to allow emergency crews to work and remove the vehicles.
The Mustang driver was identified as the suspected cause of the crash. He was detained and handed over to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, while a traffic investigator determines liability.
