Temax, Mexico — A Thursday morning traffic incident shook the quiet community of Temax. Don "Momia," a well-known elderly man who often rides his bicycle through the town, was struck by a Municipal Police patrol vehicle. According to witnesses, the man was, as usual, pedaling along his regular route and had the right of way. However, the official unit, driven by police officers, ran a stop sign and struck him without hesitation.
The event generated anger not only because of the collision itself but also for what it represents. Neighbors report that this is not the first time a patrol car has driven without caution through the streets of the municipality.
