Cancún, Q. Roo — A chaotic scene of screams and injured bodies marked Monday afternoon on Torcasita Avenue, where a severe collision involving three vehicles left ten people injured, including six transported to hospitals. One driver may face charges for alleged assault and driving under the influence of alcohol.

The Collision

The incident occurred at the intersection with 62nd Street in Region 231 when a blue Peugeot sedan, license plate UUV-221-D, entered from a side street and was struck by a public transport van carrying passengers.

Following the impact, the sedan was propelled into a wooden telephone pole owned by Teléfonos de México. The out-of-control van then collided head-on with a taxi traveling in the opposite direction, leaving both vehicles severely damaged.

Emergency Response

Within minutes, ambulances and emergency personnel attended to ten injured individuals. Five were diagnosed with multiple contusions and declined hospitalization, while the other six—including the alleged at-fault driver—were taken to nearby medical facilities.

Witnesses reported that the Peugeot driver, who showed signs of intoxication, is allegedly an employee of a municipal government department. Moments after the crash, the same individual was involved in a physical altercation with a woman, which could lead to additional legal consequences. Authorities are gathering testimonies to determine if further charges will be filed.

Investigation and Aftermath

Traffic officers secured the vehicles, operated by the Andrés Quintana Roo union, to determine liability. The damaged units were towed to an impound lot as forensic experts assessed material damages and fault.

The crash caused partial traffic paralysis on one of Cancún’s busiest southern thoroughfares, highlighting the vulnerability of public transport to reckless driving.
