Cancun, Quintana Roo — More than 700 Cancun taxis are expected to be equipped with surveillance cameras linked to the C5 security center by the end of the year, according to the head of the local taxi union.
Rubén Carrillo Buenfil, secretary general of the Cancun Taxi Union, said the first phase of the project is already underway, with 270 vehicles fitted with the devices and currently in the process of being connected to C5. The original target was 250 cameras, a figure that has already been surpassed.
The cameras feature artificial intelligence, which officials say will strengthen monitoring and tracking during taxi routes. Carrillo Buenfil noted that the devices will be linked to C5 once the corresponding agreement is finalized.
Union leaders continue to invite concessionaires and drivers to join the program, and installation is expected to expand to more than 700 units in the coming months.
