Cancun, Quintana Roo — Families of missing persons blocked a major road in Cancun on Tuesday, demanding progress in investigations and alleging judicial irregularities that have stalled their cases.
The demonstration, organized by the Madres Buscadoras de Quintana Roo collective, gathered outside the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Missing Persons. Protesters accused the judicial system of possible corruption that they say hinders investigations.
They specifically pointed to the Eighth Court, alleging it issued irregular rulings—sometimes, they claim, in exchange for money—which has created distrust and frustration among families searching for loved ones.
To pressure authorities, protesters blocked Avenida Cobá at kilometer zero, a key access route to the Hotel Zone. The closure caused long vehicle queues and disrupted public transportation, prompting officials to intervene to prevent further complications.
Traffic officers implemented detours at strategic points like Bonampak, redirecting traffic to alternate routes including Uxmal and Sayil avenues. The protest continued without reported incidents.
