Mexico City — Mexico expects to export more than 350,000 tons of mango to the United States during the current season, which runs from January through September, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development announced.
This year, 19,734 orchards across eight states have registered for the export program, covering more than 102,000 hectares of planted area. The participating states are Colima, Chiapas, Guerrero, Jalisco, Michoacán, Nayarit, Oaxaca, and Sinaloa.
In 2025, mango exports to the U.S. were valued at $559.16 million.
As of March 30, authorities have shipped 45,230 tons of mango to the United States and canceled 161 shipments due to sanitary inspection issues. The canceled lots represent 0.82% of total shipments to the U.S. so far this season. In 2025, the cancellation rate was 1.57%.
The National Service for Agrifood Health, Safety and Quality, in coordination with the U.S. Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, inspects all shipments at the start of the export process. If inspectors detect any sanitary alerts, they halt fruit shipments from the affected orchard for the remainder of the season to protect other national producers.
To safeguard mango and other fruit crops, authorities operate the National Campaign Against Fruit Flies, which involves installing trapping and fruit sampling networks in orchards to monitor and implement Integrated Pest Management. Depending on regional phytosanitary conditions, this strategy includes biological control tools and the Sterile Insect Technique.
In 2020, Mexican and U.S. health authorities signed a work plan that producers and packing facilities must follow to market their fruit in the United States. The National Service for Agrifood Health, Safety and Quality verifies compliance with phytosanitary requirements and grants pre-authorization to interested parties. Orchards that fail to meet sanitary requirements are barred from exporting for the rest of the season but may re-register for the following period.
