Mexico City — The Mexican government has launched a special Father’s Day giveaway as part of the second edition of its “La Gran Escapada” tourism campaign, offering six fathers a trip for two that includes flights, hotel stays, and access to the Tren Maya.

Tourism Secretary Josefina Rodriguez Zamora announced during the morning press conference on June 19 that the first six fathers who turn 60 on Sunday, June 21, and register at 2:00 p.m. Central Time on the Tourism Secretariat’s Instagram account (sectur_mx) will receive a prize package for two people. The package includes a round-trip flight on Mexicana de Aviacion, hotel accommodations at Mundo Maya group hotels, access to archaeological sites, and a ride on the Tren Maya to explore southeastern Mexico.

“Fathers who turn 60 on Sunday, June 21, Father’s Day, can register at 2:00 p.m. on the Sectur Instagram page, and the first six will get a round-trip trip for two, flying Mexicana, staying at Mundo Maya group hotels, and riding the Tren Maya,” Rodriguez said.

How to Participate

To enter, participants must meet three requirements: their birthday must fall on Sunday, June 21; they must log into the official Instagram account of the Tourism Secretariat at 2:00 p.m. Central Time; and they must follow the registration instructions posted at that time. Only the first six registrations will win. The secretariat said the process will be monitored to ensure transparency.

A Prize Designed for Family Enjoyment

The tourism package is designed for fathers to share the experience with a family member or friend. The round-trip flight on Mexicana de Aviacion allows travel to destinations in southeastern Mexico, where the Tren Maya connects archaeological sites and cities with cultural offerings. Accommodations at Mundo Maya group hotels provide comfort and access to top-tier destinations, while archaeological site access lets winners explore Mexico’s historical and cultural heritage.

President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo highlighted that the initiative aims to celebrate fathers while boosting domestic tourism. “We want fathers to feel recognized and, by traveling through Mexico, to support jobs, strengthen communities, and back the millions of businesses that sustain the country’s real economy,” she said.

La Gran Escapada: Tourism’s ‘Buen Fin’ With Discounts Up to 35%

The Father’s Day giveaway is part of “La Gran Escapada,” a tourism campaign running from June 18 to 21 across all 32 states. The campaign offers discounts of up to 35% on airlines, accommodations, restaurants, ground transportation, convention centers, spas, and community experiences such as firefly watching in Tlaxcala or buying handicrafts from small businesses.

This year, the campaign includes 114,000 discounted experiences, 5% more than in 2025, and 6,577 registered establishments, an 11% increase. For the first time, the campaign is open to international tourists, who can take advantage of the offers to book and return to Mexico with special discounts.

“We are living through this great World Cup moment, so any visitor can access the benefits of La Gran Escapada,” Rodriguez said. The joint strategy with CONCANACO and PROFECO aims to democratize tourism, strengthen local economies, and reduce seasonality, increasing spending in regions.

Democratizing Tourism: More Families Can Travel

Octavio de la Torre, head of CONCANACO, said: “Democratizing tourism means that more families can travel, more people can get to know our country, more municipalities receive visitors, and more communities participate in the economic spillover.” The campaign allows citizens to make purchases and advance reservations until June 21, with the option to travel later and take advantage of the diversity of domestic destinations.

“Traveling through Mexico means supporting jobs, strengthening communities, and backing millions of businesses that sustain the country’s real economy,” Rodriguez concluded.

Context: Celebrating Father’s Day With Domestic Tourism

The Father’s Day giveaway is part of a federal government strategy to revive domestic tourism and capitalize on the momentum of the 2026 World Cup. Mexico has seen a 5% increase in tourists, surpassing the United States (3%) and Canada (minus 2%). On match days, Mexican host cities average 75% hotel occupancy, exceeding the 55% average in other U.S. and Canadian host cities.

With “La Gran Escapada” and the special giveaway, the government aims to make fathers feel recognized while boosting local economies through tourism. The initiative is open to national and international tourists, offering a unique opportunity to explore Mexico with special discounts and experiences.
