Mexico — Despite winter sports not being part of its traditional athletic heritage, Mexico is about to experience a historic chapter at the 2026 Winter Olympics, as the number of national representatives has increased for Milan-Cortina.
This news was announced just days before the games begin in Italy, following a long and demanding qualification process, and confirmed the inclusion of Lasse Gaxiola, a young man of just 17 years with the hope of making his mark in alpine skiing.
The presence of Gaxiola will open a unique moment for Olympic history, as he is the son of Sarah Schleper, a recognized athlete who will be the national flag bearer at the opening ceremony in San Siro.
With the arrival of the new athlete, Mexico will have five representatives at the games, forming the largest delegation since the 1992 Albertville Olympic Games.
