Mexico City, Mexico — The Government of Mexico, through the National Commission on Minimum Wages (Conasami), has confirmed a 13 percent increase to the minimum wage that will take effect on January 1, 2026.
This measure, announced by Labor Secretary Marath Bolaños, aims to consolidate the recovery of workers’ purchasing power.
With this increase to the monthly minimum wage, it will exceed 9,000 pesos in most of the country, while in the northern border zone it will surpass 13,000 pesos:
- General Zone: The monthly wage will be 9,582.47 pesos.
- Northern Border Free Zone: The daily amount rises to 440.87 pesos, reaching 13,409.80 pesos monthly.
President Claudia Sheinbaum highlighted that this increase is the result of an agreement with the business sector and assured that it will not generate inflationary pressures. To protect citizens’ pockets, agreements to stabilize the prices of the basic food basket are maintained, which includes 24 essential products with a cap of 910 pesos.
The administration’s goal is ambitious: by 2030, the minimum wage is expected to equal 2.5 times the value of the basic food and non-food basket. According to official estimates, approximately 8.5 million workers will directly benefit from this measure.
Since the increases began in 2019, it is estimated that 6.6 million Mexicans have emerged from poverty, a trend that the current government intends to deepen with the technical support of organizations such as Coparmex.
