Mexico’s Airports Connect to All 16 World Cup Venues

Senator Gino Segura discussing Mexico's airport connectivity to World Cup venues

Mexico City – Quintana Roo Senator Eugenio “Gino” Segura welcomed leaders from digital platforms, hotel representatives, and business leaders to promote the Tourism & Technology Congress WTTS, which will be held on November 26 and 27 on the island of Cozumel.

In his inaugural message, Gino Segura highlighted that Mexico is a world leader in natural resources and one of the countries with the greatest cultural wealth, stating that “we are destined for greatness.” He emphasized that global tourism has evolved, and today destinations compete not only for their natural beauty or history, but for efficiency, personalization, and innovation, areas where technology—including artificial intelligence—plays a decisive role.

During the event, the senator commented that Mexico has the only airports with air connectivity to all 16 World Cup venues in North America: Cancún International Airport and Mexico City International Airport.

“Digital platforms already offer recommendations and propose complete itineraries developed with artificial intelligence. That is why spaces like WTTS are essential to generate conclusions that allow us to enhance Mexico as a destination and consolidate it as the fifth tourism power in the world,” he stated.

The senator cited a study from Florida Atlantic University that reveals that hotels incorporating AI increase their sales by up to 262%, a growth that, he said, should be reflected in benefits for Mexican families. “Today, AI tools allow for the elimination of costly intermediaries. This is vital for tourism SMEs to compete on equal terms with large chains and, most importantly, for the wealth from tourism to remain with our people,” he noted.

He emphasized that bringing WTTS to Quintana Roo is a strategic success, particularly to Cozumel, Mexico’s number one cruise destination, which received over 3 million visitors between January and September alone. “That is the great opportunity: using artificial intelligence so that our SMEs can capture those millions of tourists from the moment they disembark, offering them personalized experiences. That is democratizing technology and generating shared prosperity,” he added.

Finally, Gino Segura asserted that from the Senate, they will promote a legal framework that accelerates tourism digitalization without losing the human face of service. He invited sector actors and, especially, local entrepreneurs to participate in WTTS and take advantage of the exchange of experiences and opportunities.

The event was attended by Margarita Carbajal, president of FETUR Nacional; Nathalie Desplas, federal undersecretary of tourism; Daniel Altafi, secretary of tourism for Morelos; as well as representatives from media outlets.
