Mexico City — The entry and exit of Mexican and U.S. troops will be addressed in an extraordinary session of the Mexican Senate scheduled for January 13, 2026, following a request presented by President Claudia Sheinbaum.
“We will present the initiative to convene an extraordinary period to address the Executive’s requests,” Senate President Laura Itzel Castillo announced, specifying that the proposal will be referred to the Permanent Commission in its session on January 7.
The legislator explained that one of the requests involves the departure of personnel from the Mexican Navy to participate in the exercise “Increasing the Operational Capacity of the Special Operations Unit,” which will take place at Camp Shelby, Mississippi, from January 18 to March 13, 2026.
Likewise, the Senate must authorize the entry into national territory of elements from the U.S. Navy SEALs and the Seventh Special Forces Group of the U.S. Marine Corps, who will participate in the event called “Improving the Capacity of Special Operations Forces,” scheduled to take place in Mexico during January.
The request was formally received by the Permanent Commission and, according to legislative procedure, requires approval by the full Senate through an extraordinary session for its constitutional validation.
