MEXICO CITY — The Mexican Postal Service, Correos de México, has reactivated the delivery of letters and non-commercial documents to the United States, effective September 12, 2025. This action makes Mexico the first country to partially reestablish this service following the international suspension triggered by U.S. Executive Order 14324.

The Mexican government announced that service for sending letters and non-commercial documents to the United States through its national postal service will resume on the stated date. This measure represents the initial step toward normalizing postal operations that were halted as a result of the U.S. government's executive order.

With this provision, more than 1,500 Mexican Post Offices throughout the country are authorized to accept personal correspondence, along with administrative, academic, or legal documents. This authorization applies only to items that possess no commercial value and are not subject to customs duties.

Restrictions and Inter-Agency Coordination

The restoration of service does not include the delivery of packages, courier services, magazines, books, or printed publications. These categories will remain suspended until further notice. Mexican authorities confirmed they are engaged in ongoing dialogue with their counterparts in the United States to reach agreements that would permit the full reactivation of all types of shipments.

This progress was achieved through coordination between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Economy, and the Mexican Postal Service. The effort received support from the private sector, specifically from Aeroméxico, which collaborated on logistics management.

A First Among Nations

Of the 39 Universal Postal Union (UPU) member countries that reported service interruptions following the U.S. measure, Mexico is the first to partially restore letter and document delivery services.

The federal government emphasized that the speed of this reactivation reflects its commitment to the interests of the population and its willingness to maintain a close and constructive dialogue with the United States. The goal is to resolve this global challenge through continued work with the Mexican Postal Service.
