Mexican Navy Vessel Collides With Ultramar Boat in Isla Mujeres (Video)

The damaged bow of the Mexican Navy patrol boat ARM Uxmal after colliding with a Ultramar vessel in Isla Mujeres

Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — A Mexican Navy patrol boat collided with a Ultramar cargo vessel during docking maneuvers at the port of Isla Mujeres on Thursday, causing significant damage but no injuries.

The coastal patrol vessel ARM Uxmal (P-335), operated by the Mexican Navy, was approaching the dock when it struck the Ultramar vessel, according to witness accounts and video footage circulating on social media. The impact severely deformed the bow of the naval vessel.

Witnesses reported seeing crew members on the forward deck performing docking-related tasks moments before the collision. The patrol boat failed to correct its trajectory and hit the Ultramar vessel with considerable force.

The ARM Uxmal is a Tenochtitlan-class vessel typically used for maritime surveillance and coastal security in the Mexican Caribbean. No official statement has been released by the Navy regarding the cause of the accident.

Authorities are investigating possible factors including propulsion system failure, steering problems, miscalculation during docking, sea currents, or unexpected mechanical issues that may have prevented the captain from maintaining control. Any determination of responsibility will await the results of technical inspections and the Navy’s investigation.

No injuries were reported among crew or civilians. The incident surprised residents and tourists at the port, as such accidents involving military vessels during routine docking are uncommon.
