Mexican Navy Saves 11 Near Cozumel After Boat Sinks

Cozumel, Quintana Roo — The Mexican Navy, through the Maritime Search, Rescue, and Surveillance Station (ENSAR) in Cozumel, successfully rescued 11 individuals after their vessel sank near Isla de la Pasión, located north of Cozumel.

Emergency Response Activated

The operation was launched following an emergency call received by the Command and Control Center of the Cozumel Naval Sector. The distress report indicated that a boat named ES ESA COSA had capsized, leaving its passengers in need of immediate assistance near Isla de la Pasión.

In response, ENSAR Cozumel dispatched two Defender-class vessels to the scene to ensure the safety of those stranded at sea. Upon arrival, rescue teams located and retrieved all 11 individuals, including three minors and a four-month-old infant.

Medical Evaluation and Aftermath

The rescued individuals were transported to the Cozumel Naval Sector facilities, where they received medical attention. Authorities confirmed that all survivors were in stable condition, with the exception of the infant, who appeared distressed. The baby’s parents opted to take the child to a local hospital for further evaluation.

The Cozumel Naval Sector reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives at sea and reminded the public of its emergency contact numbers: (987) 117-03-92 and (987) 872-55-76. Additionally, the Mexican Navy provided its nationwide emergency line: 800 MARINA1 (800 627-4621).

No further details regarding the cause of the vessel’s sinking were disclosed.
