Galveston, Texas — A Mexican Navy aircraft that departed from Mérida, Yucatán en route to Galveston, Texas crashed on Monday, December 22, 2025, during its approach to the U.S. city.

According to information confirmed by the Navy Secretariat (Semar), the aircraft was participating in a medical support mission in coordination with the Michou and Mau Foundation, an organization dedicated to caring for children with burns, when the incident occurred near Galveston.

Following the accident report, the Navy Secretariat stated that search and rescue protocols were immediately activated in coordination with local U.S. authorities. Galveston County Sheriff’s Office personnel responded to the crash site and have cordoned off the area while investigations are conducted to determine the causes of the crash.

U.S. media outlets, including FOX 26, reported that the aircraft likely crashed in Galveston Bay, west of the causeway connecting to the island, and preliminarily indicated that eight people were aboard the plane. However, this information has not yet been officially confirmed by Mexican authorities.

The Navy Secretariat specified that the situation is ongoing and that binational coordination continues for response and rescue operations. As of this publication, the status of the crew has not been disclosed, nor whether there are any injured or deceased individuals.

Authorities are expected to issue an official statement in the coming hours with further details about the incident and the condition of those on board.
