CANCÚN, MX — The National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami reported this Thursday that it is monitoring a tropical wave located over the central tropical Atlantic, which is moving westward at a speed of between 15 and 20 miles per hour (24 to 32 kilometers per hour).
According to a report issued at 2:00 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time, the agency forecasts that this system could reach the central portion of the Caribbean Sea by the middle of next week, where a gradual development of conditions for its strengthening is not ruled out.
For now, the NHC indicates that the probability of cyclonic formation within the next 48 hours is low, close to 0%, while the potential for development over the next seven days also remains low, at 20%.
The phenomenon does not represent an immediate risk for the Mexican coast, although meteorological authorities recommend maintaining vigilance for any changes in its evolution, especially for countries in the western Caribbean and the Yucatán Peninsula.
