Mérida, Yucatán — Mérida will host the K’íiwik: Maya World Tourism Fair 2026 from June 2 to 5, an international event aimed at strengthening tourism across southeastern Mexico and the broader Maya region.
The fair will bring together more than 200 international buyers and representatives from five Maya World countries: Belize, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Mexico, including the states of Campeche, Chiapas, Tabasco, Quintana Roo, and Yucatán.
Officials announced the details during a briefing at Punto México, the tourism ministry’s facility in Mexico City. The meeting was led by Miguel Aguíñiga Rodríguez, head of the Innovation, Sustainability, and Tourism Professionalization Unit, representing Tourism Secretary and interim president of the Maya World Organization, Josefina Rodríguez Zamora; Yucatán Tourism Development Secretary Darío Flota Ocampo; and Ana Beatriz González Romero de la Roca, permanent technical secretary of the Maya World Organization.
Federal and state authorities emphasized the fair’s role as a strategic platform to position the Maya World as an integrated multi-destination hub, aligning with global tourism trends.
“K’íiwik represents a strategic tool of national cultural policy that positions Mexico and the Maya World region internationally, while strengthening our tourist attractions and integration with countries like Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, and El Salvador, consolidating the brand as a competitive multi-destination globally,” Aguíñiga Rodríguez said.
The event aims to build a tourism model based on three pillars: multi-destination, integrating experiences across countries and states into a single offer; accessibility, driven by air and land connectivity and tourism infrastructure; and proximity, allowing for smooth, attractive circuits for international travelers. This approach responds to the evolution of global tourism, where travelers seek more complete, authentic, and connected experiences.
Yucatán Tourism Development Secretary Darío Flota Ocampo said K’íiwik represents a firm step toward consolidating the Maya World as an integrated region.
“Now more than ever, we need to communicate that we are an accessible, close-knit multi-destination with incomparable cultural richness. This fair is the space where that vision becomes alliances, business, and development for all our destinations,” he stated.
In a video message, Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena said Yucatán is proud to host this important international gathering after 12 years, calling it a valuable space to generate alliances, business, and new travel experiences from a sustainable tourism perspective.
The 2026 edition will take place at the Yucatán Siglo XXI Convention Center, reinforcing Yucatán’s status as a key destination for cultural, gastronomic, and meetings tourism in Mexico.
K’íiwik is the only international platform focused on the cultural, community, and sustainable tourism of the Maya World, bringing together key players from five countries to generate business, collaboration, and industry momentum. More information is available at www.feriadelmundomaya.com.
