Mérida, Yucatán — The Mérida City Council has suspended its weekly “Mérida en Domingo” cultural program for Sunday, March 8, to accommodate a large march marking International Women’s Day.
In a statement, officials announced the suspension to ensure free expression and public safety during the demonstration, which is expected to draw a high turnout in the city’s historic center on Sunday afternoon.
The city said municipal police officers will be available to assist the public in coordination with other security personnel, aiming to protect attendees.
The Mérida en Domingo activities will resume on Sunday, March 15.
