Cancún, Mexico — A new ticket sales module for the Maya Train has opened at the entrance of Cancún’s municipal palace, bringing access to the infrastructure megaproject closer to tourists and local residents.

Discounts for Local Residents

Leyvi Seleni Albornos Chan, a customer service representative at the Cancún Station of the Maya Train, confirmed that residents of the five states along the train’s route qualify for a 50% discount on tickets.

"Due to the high number of tourists currently visiting Cancún for summer vacations, we’ve brought this module closer to visitors exploring the city center so they can purchase their tickets conveniently," Albornos Chan stated.

To receive the discount, residents of Quintana Roo, Yucatán, Campeche, Tabasco, and Chiapas must present their voter identification cards. Ticket prices in 2025 vary depending on the route, class (tourist or premier), and whether the passenger is a local resident, national tourist, or international visitor.

Operating Hours and Economic Impact

The sales module will operate Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Authorities anticipate that this initiative will not only boost regional tourism but also encourage local community engagement in a project expected to enhance economic activity and connectivity in southeastern Mexico.

Ridership Growth

Since its launch, the Maya Train has transported 1.5 million passengers, with increased ridership during peak vacation seasons. Official data indicates a 19% monthly growth rate, with surges during high-demand periods, and a 74% increase in 2025 compared to the previous year.

The expansion of ticket sales to downtown Cancún aims to further capitalize on this upward trend while improving accessibility for travelers.
