Cancún, Mexico — A man was killed and his wife and one-year-old daughter were seriously injured after being shot by masked assailants on a motorcycle in Cancún’s Region 240. The attack occurred outside the family’s home on Emiliano Zapata Street.
Details of the Attack
According to initial reports, the family was outside their residence when the assailants, riding a motorcycle and wearing masks, passed by and opened fire without warning. The attackers shot the victims multiple times before fleeing the scene.
Delayed Medical Response
Due to the delayed arrival of emergency medical services, relatives and neighbors attempted to transport the victims themselves. The father was taken to the General Hospital after being denied treatment at a local IMSS clinic, which does not handle gunshot cases. He died shortly after admission.
The mother and child were transported to the IMSS Specialties Hospital, where they remain in critical condition.
Police Inaction Alleged
Witnesses reported that two masked individuals on a motorcycle passed through the area while municipal police were securing the crime scene. Despite being identified by neighbors as the perpetrators, authorities did not intervene to detain them.
Investigation Underway
Ministerial Police and forensic experts from the State Attorney General’s Office arrived at the scene to conduct an investigation. The motive for the attack remains unknown.
The case has been referred to the State Attorney General’s Office for further proceedings.
