Playa del Carmen, Mexico — Governor Mara Lezama and Mayor Estefanía Mercado officially inaugurated the Feria del Carmen 2025, a celebration steeped in tradition and community pride for the families of Playa del Carmen. The event, held in a festive atmosphere filled with cultural identity, marks one of the most cherished annual traditions in the region.
A Celebration of Heritage and Unity
Accompanied by Verónica Lezama, honorary president of DIF Quintana Roo, the authorities cut the ribbon to open the fairgrounds and crowned Ximena Puc as the festival's queen. The festivities, which will run until July 16, will feature headline performances by El Malilla, Bobby Pulido, and Molotov at Plaza 28 de Julio.
In her address, Governor Mara Lezama thanked the presence of local and federal legislators, military representatives, civil associations, business leaders, and the general public. She emphasized the symbolic value of the event, stating, “It is always wonderful to come to Playa del Carmen and witness the progress being made under this administration. We are building the second phase of the Fourth Transformation—a humanist, feminist government that is close to the people, with a strong ally in the federal government led by Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, Mexico’s first female president.”
Lezama also called for the preservation of cultural roots that define Quintana Roo’s identity. “No one can know where they are going if they don’t know where they come from. This fair is living culture—a space for intergenerational connection, unity, and community pride. Together—civil society, youth, elders, council members, lawmakers, business leaders, and federal forces—we are one, united in making Playa del Carmen shine.”
Mayor Estefanía Mercado expressed pride in leading the festivities alongside the state’s first female governor. “This fair represents years of culture and the labor of founding families who believed in this land, as well as our devotion to the Virgin of Carmen. What makes this moment extraordinary is the presence of Governor Mara Lezama, whom we hold dear in Playa del Carmen.”
Mercado extended gratitude to elected officials, council members, civil authorities, local business owners, and the families who sustain the celebration. “These days are about commemoration and strengthening our culture. This is not just a town festival—it also boosts our economy and tourism. Enjoy these beautiful, family-friendly days. Long live the Feria del Carmen!”
Festivities and Cultural Showcases
Following the inauguration, Lezama and Mercado toured the fairgrounds alongside local officials and visitors. As part of the day’s activities, all amusement rides were free for children and families. The Teatro del Pueblo y para el Pueblo featured traditional dances and cultural performances highlighting Mexico’s regional heritage.
Notable attendees included Father Enrique Flores Álvarez of the Church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, who oversees religious and spiritual activities honoring the patron saint of fishermen.
The Feria del Carmen, a symbol of faith and tradition for Playa del Carmen, reinforces the community’s solidarity and festive spirit through religious, artistic, culinary, and recreational events.
A Historic Moment
This year’s inauguration marked a milestone, as no governor in over a decade had attended the festival with the same level of engagement as Lezama, who is also the first woman to govern Quintana Roo.
