Man Sentenced to 37 Years for 2020 Feminicidio in Isla Mujeres

Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — A judge has sentenced Jimy José Catzín Sanguino to 37 years and six months in prison for the 2020 feminicidio of his partner, the Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office announced.

During the oral trial, prosecutors presented testimonial, expert, scientific, and circumstantial evidence that proved Catzín Sanguino’s full responsibility in the crime, leading to the conviction.

Attack at Victim’s Home

According to the investigation, on April 26, 2020, Catzín Sanguino went to the victim’s home, where he had a romantic relationship with her. An argument escalated into a physical attack. The woman suffered multiple stab wounds from a sharp weapon, causing her death from hemorrhagic shock.

The suspect was arrested the following day, April 27, 2020, in Isla Mujeres under a judicial arrest warrant.

In addition to the prison term, the judge ordered Catzín Sanguino to pay a fine of 195,480 pesos and 623,493.20 pesos in material damages.
