Cancún, Mexico — A tragedy unfolded in Cancún on Tuesday afternoon when a man murdered his wife and attempted to kill their daughter before taking his own life. The young girl was rescued alive by her uncle, who transported her to the General Hospital "Jesús Kumate Rodríguez" for emergency care.
A Lamentable Case of Familial Violence
The incident occurred in the Supermanzana 76 area of the city. According to reports, residents alerted authorities to a case of domestic violence at approximately 2:00 PM, with initial fears that all members of a family had died.
Municipal police officers and elements from the Specialized Group for Attention to Family and Gender-Based Violence (Geavig) were dispatched to the scene and established a security perimeter around a two-story orange-colored house. The arrival of agents from the Quintana Roo State Attorney General's Office (FGE) was awaited to begin the official investigation.
Paramedics and officers on the scene confirmed that both the man and woman, identified as a married couple, showed no signs of life. It was subsequently confirmed that an uncle had arrived in time to rescue the couple's young daughter, who was transported in delicate condition to the Cancún General Hospital.
Preliminary investigations and initial reports suggest the sequence of events began with the man killing his wife. He then allegedly attempted to strangle his daughter before ultimately committing suicide.
Neighbors were unable to provide extensive details to investigators, though some indicated that the family made a living selling chamoyadas, a popular Mexican snack.
Forensic experts from the Medical Examiner's Office (Semefo) were tasked with collecting the remains of the couple for transfer to the morgue. A legally required autopsy will be performed to determine the exact causes of death and to confirm whether the case is officially classified as a femicide and a suicide.
Authorities Confirm Minor is Stable
Following the tragic event, Cancún authorities issued a brief statement on the incident. The Municipal Secretariat of Citizen Security and Transit (SMSCyT) of Benito Juárez stated, "After immediately attending to a report in Supermanzana 76, it was learned that a seven-year-old girl was transferred to the General Hospital 'Jesús Kumate Rodríguez', where she is stable and receiving medical attention."
The statement added that accompaniment is being provided to the minor's relatives. The girl is believed to have been attacked by her own father.
