Señor, Quintana Roo — A man was kidnapped, beaten, and abandoned along a highway in the Felipe Carrillo Puerto municipality, adding to a growing number of disappearances in the region that authorities have largely kept quiet about.
According to reports, the victim was intercepted by a group of individuals in the community of Señor, forced into a double-cab pickup truck, and driven along Highway 295 toward Tihosuco. He was later dumped by the roadside after being assaulted and threatened. The victim’s identity has not been released, and security agencies have provided no details about the case.
This incident marks at least the tenth reported disappearance in the municipality this year. Of those, authorities have only activated official search protocols in four cases. Just one person—a minor—has been found. The other six incidents have been handled discreetly by both officials and victims’ families, with those individuals still missing.
Pattern of Disappearances
The disappearances have occurred across several communities:
- Three in Tepich, where no search was initiated.
- Two in Tihosuco, where victims were briefly held and later returned home on their own, leading to no formal complaints.
- Two in X-Hazil Sur, which were reported to authorities; one victim was found alive.
- One in Santa Rosa, where the person remains missing.
In response, authorities from all three levels of government launched a large-scale search operation in southern communities, starting along the X-Hazil Sur–Chan Santa Cruz corridor. This area saw violent incidents last weekend when two people were kidnapped on separate days; one was later found alive, while the other is still missing.
Search Operation Deployed
On Saturday morning, multiple police, investigative, and military units gathered outside the Felipe Carrillo Puerto Prosecutor’s Office in the Leona Vicario neighborhood to coordinate before deploying. A convoy of official vehicles, including a K9 unit, traveled to X-Hazil Sur and surrounding areas to inspect for clues related to the missing persons.
One recent case involves Raúl Alfredo Blanco Morales, who was kidnapped from a family party in the early hours of Saturday, February 28. Witnesses said attendees were subdued by individuals dressed similarly to Mexican Army personnel, who forcibly took Blanco Morales. A search has been activated, but he has not been located eight days later.
Days after that incident, another person was kidnapped in the same community but later released. Few details have been disclosed, and the corresponding search was deactivated.
As of this report, authorities have not announced any official results from the search operation for missing persons in Felipe Carrillo Puerto.
