Chetumal, Quintana Roo — Unidentified assailants attempted to execute a man in a shooting Friday morning in the Centro neighborhood of Chetumal, leaving the victim hospitalized with gunshot wounds.
The incident occurred around 11:40 a.m. at the intersection of Avenida Benito Juárez and Calle Mahatma Gandhi after an emergency call alerted authorities to a shooting victim.
Police activated a code red response, mobilizing Quintana Roo state police, municipal police, and the Mexican Army to the scene.
Officers found a man lying injured on the sidewalk in front of a clothing store. Red Cross paramedics provided emergency care and initially transported him to nearby Hospital Morelos. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred under police escort to the General Hospital.
Witnesses reported that several men in tactical clothing exited a compact vehicle and fired multiple shots at the victim, who was standing outside a commercial establishment.
Another person, believed to be an associate of the injured man, was also treated at the scene and taken to the General Hospital by the Public Security Department’s Rescue and Medical Emergency Squad ambulance for possible injuries.
State Prosecutor’s Office forensic experts, working with investigative police and a public prosecutor, collected evidence including spent shell casings scattered at the scene. The attackers fled in an unidentified vehicle.
