Man Found Dead in Tulum Home After Neighbors Report Foul Odor

A residential street in Tulum's Tumbenka neighborhood where a man was found deceased in his home

Tulum, Quintana Roo — A 54-year-old man was found dead inside his home in Tulum’s Tumbenka neighborhood early Thursday morning, after neighbors reported he had been missing for at least three days and noticed foul odors coming from the residence.

Residents discovered the man’s body on Nabal Street, where he reportedly lived alone. Concern grew among neighbors who had not seen or heard from him in days, and the situation became more alarming when they began detecting strong, unpleasant smells emanating from the property.

Neighbors alerted authorities through the 911 emergency line. State police officers responded to the scene and confirmed the man had no vital signs upon entering the home. They cordoned off the area and notified the State Prosecutor’s Office to begin an investigation.

Forensic experts and medical examiners arrived shortly after to conduct legal procedures. They removed the body and transported it to forensic facilities where an autopsy will be performed to officially determine the cause of death.

Preliminary information suggests the man had colon cancer, which authorities say may have been a contributing factor in his death. However, officials emphasized that forensic results will confirm the exact circumstances.

The discovery shocked residents of Tumbenka, who described the man as known in the neighborhood but private in his lifestyle. Neighbors highlighted the importance of reporting unusual situations, such as prolonged absences or warning signs, to allow authorities to intervene promptly.

The man’s identity has not been officially released pending further investigation.
