Tulum, Mexico — A man was fatally shot inside an Oxxo convenience store in the Aldea Tulum subdivision on Thursday afternoon, marking another violent incident in the area. Authorities are investigating whether the killing is connected to drug-related activities.
Attack Details
According to preliminary reports, armed assailants entered the store, located on Turquesa Avenue, and opened fire on the victim. The man, whose identity has not yet been released by officials, died at the scene despite emergency responders arriving promptly. Paramedics confirmed he showed no signs of life.
Following the shooting, the suspects fled in a vehicle. No further details about their whereabouts or the vehicle’s description have been disclosed.
Investigation Underway
Municipal police cordoned off the area to secure the crime scene while visibly shaken store employees were escorted out. Forensic specialists and agents from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) collected ballistic evidence and ordered the victim’s body to be transported to the Medical Forensic Service (Semefo) for an autopsy.
Though no official motive has been announced, unofficial sources close to the investigation suggest the homicide may be tied to small-scale drug trafficking, an escalating issue in parts of Tulum.
The FGE continues to gather evidence to identify and apprehend those responsible. The incident has renewed concerns over security in residential and commercial areas of the municipality.
