Puerto Morelos, Mexico — A man has been formally charged with child pornography offenses following an international investigation that originated with reports from European authorities, the State Prosecutor’s Office announced.
Tomás “N” faces charges related to human trafficking in the form of child pornography after a control judge in Puerto Morelos determined there was sufficient evidence to proceed with criminal proceedings against him.
The investigation began after a complaint filed by the Cologne Prosecutor’s Office and Germany’s Central Cybercrime Contact Service, which detected the alleged possession and distribution of child sexual exploitation material through digital networks.
Investigators established that in 2020, the defendant allegedly participated in criminal groups on messaging platforms where he shared files and links containing illicit content. He reportedly used multiple digital profiles to conceal his identity and evade authorities.
Cyber intelligence operations tracked these activities over several years, leading to the execution of an arrest warrant by the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Human Trafficking Crimes.
During a search of the suspect’s home in the Villas Morelos II subdivision, authorities seized various electronic devices containing digital material considered relevant evidence for the case. Forensic computer techniques recovered information that had been intentionally deleted.
A specialized medical report based on the Tanner scale confirmed that the individuals appearing in the secured files were minors, supporting the charges presented by the prosecutor.
The control judge ordered the defendant to remain in preventive detention while the criminal process continues and granted additional time for further investigation.
