Mahahual, Quintana Roo — A man was arrested in southern Quintana Roo after authorities found him in possession of a military-grade assault rifle during a joint security operation.

Police identified the suspect as Marlon Mario “N” following his capture in the town of Mahahual, located in the Othón P. Blanco municipality. The arrest occurred during a coordinated surveillance operation involving the Quintana Roo Citizen Security Secretariat (SSCQROO), the Mexican Navy (Semar), and the Mexican Army (Sedena).

Officers reported observing the individual manipulating what appeared to be a high-caliber firearm near the trunk of a vehicle. According to the police report, the man was holding a black rifle while loading what seemed to be a fully stocked magazine, prompting immediate intervention.

After inspecting the suspect, authorities seized a 5.56 caliber M4 carbine-style rifle along with multiple loaded magazines. The confiscated materials included several 30-round magazines, one 40-round magazine of the same caliber, and additional magazines, including one containing 9mm cartridges.

Police also confiscated two ballistic helmets and two plate carrier vests with ballistic plates—equipment commonly associated with tactical operations. Additionally, they secured a cell phone and a white Nissan Kicks vehicle with Quintana Roo license plates, which the suspect allegedly used.

The arrest took place at the intersection of Mantarraya and Delfín streets in Mahahual’s Colonia 55 neighborhood. Authorities detained the man on suspicion of illegal possession of restricted weaponry.

Both the suspect and the seized items were turned over to the Federal Prosecutor’s Office (FGR), which will continue the investigation and determine the legal proceedings.
