Cozumel, Quintana Roo — Kuzá Beach & Adventure Park has stated that its priority is to generate responsible tourism, formal employment, and economic spillover in Quintana Roo. The project is promoted by Global Cruises Worldwide, a U.S. company with a presence in more than 140 destinations. Their focus, they affirmed, is to directly benefit Cozumel families.
The corporate entity, headquartered in Miami with over 15 years in the cruise industry, reported that since April of last year it has generated more than 260 direct jobs and 533 indirect jobs. These figures, they said, will grow with the opening of the second phase. The plan includes a world-class water park.
Kuzá highlighted that it has prioritized hiring local talent. It works with more than 25 contractors from the region and more than 70 local suppliers. It acknowledged the support of the community and authorities, but also denounced unfounded accusations aimed at discrediting the project.
The company pointed directly to PIA Taller de Espacios, a firm that was paid nearly 60 million pesos for various works. The most relevant contract, for the main pool, was supposed to be delivered in June 2025. The work was abandoned six months later, unfinished and with structural flaws.
Furthermore, it reported threats, physical aggression against the construction director, and acts of vandalism. The incidents, it stated, have been reported to the authorities. Consequently, in December, access to the project for personnel from that company was restricted.
Kuzá indicated that it had to hire, with its own resources, specialized companies to correct the deficiencies. This generated a considerable economic impact and an estimated loss of profit of more than 3 million dollars due to delays in opening key areas.
Despite this, it assured that it sought a conciliatory solution and offered not to apply contractual penalties. It accused PIA of abandoning dialogue and opting for media pressure based on false accusations and debts without legal basis.
Finally, Kuzá categorically rejected any environmental damage. It affirmed that it operates with valid permits and under strict regulations. It reiterated its openness to dialogue and invited authorities and media to visit the park, ensuring that its commitment to Cozumel is clear, permanent, and verifiable.
