Playa del Carmen, Mexico — A control judge has issued an order to formally charge Andrés "N," alias "Chivis," for his alleged involvement in the aggravated homicide of a Belizean man in October 2022. The ruling also mandates pretrial detention for the accused, who authorities identify as a key figure in violent crimes in the In House settlement area.
Charges Stem from 2022 Execution-Style Killing
According to the Quintana Roo State Attorney General's Office, investigations reveal that on October 17, 2022, Chivis allegedly used a phone call to instruct an accomplice to locate the victim's residence. The victim was reportedly targeted for stealing items belonging to the defendant's associate.
After the victim was located, Chivis allegedly ordered his execution and threatened the accomplice with death if they disclosed details of the crime.
Judicial Proceedings and Preventive Measures
During the hearing, the judge reviewed evidence presented by both prosecution and defense before determining sufficient grounds existed to proceed with criminal charges. The court imposed a two-year preventive detention period, or until the judicial process concludes, as a precautionary measure.
State authorities classify Chivis as a high-priority target in Quintana Roo's Crime Atlas due to his alleged role as a major instigator of violence in the In House neighborhood.
The case continues under judicial review as prosecutors prepare their formal arguments.
