Cancún, Quintana Roo — The Benito Juárez municipal government will provide free shuttle service to Puerto Juárez and close a section of Avenida José López Portillo for Janal Pixán 2026, the Day of the Dead celebration that runs from Oct. 30 to Nov. 2.

The shuttles will operate from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. each day to make it easier for residents and visitors to reach the scheduled events.

Buses will leave from two points in the city: Malecón Tajamar and El Crucero, specifically the stop where vans depart for Punta Sam. Officials said the routes are meant to give people an alternative to driving their own vehicles to the festivities.

Road closures begin Wednesday

Cancún police will launch a special traffic operation in Puerto Juárez to keep vehicles moving and prevent accidents during preparations for the event and the celebration itself.

Starting at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 28, traffic will be shut down on Avenida José López Portillo between Calle 45 and Kiosco Verde.

At the same time, two-way traffic will be allowed on Avenida Benito Juárez to ease congestion caused by the restrictions. Both changes will stay in place until Tuesday, Nov. 3, when crews expect to finish dismantling the infrastructure installed for the celebration.

Drivers urged to plan ahead

Authorities advised drivers and other road users to leave earlier than usual, take alternate routes and follow the instructions of traffic officers to avoid delays.

The restrictions take effect two days before the celebrations begin and will remain in place until after they end. Officials encouraged anyone planning to attend Janal Pixán 2026 in Puerto Juárez to map out their trips in advance and factor in the traffic changes.
