Truck Hydroplanes on Wet Pavement and Slams Into Puerto Aventuras Bridge Barrier

Puerto Aventuras, Quintana Roo — A compact pickup truck lost control on standing water and crashed into the base of a bridge barrier on Federal Highway 307 on Saturday morning, causing extensive material damage and snarling traffic in the area.

According to preliminary reports from the scene, the driver of a Chevrolet Tornado was heading south on the federal highway when the vehicle began climbing the overpass at Puerto Aventuras.

As it started up the elevated structure, the truck crossed a deep pool of water that had collected after hours of heavy rain across the region. The vehicle hydroplaned, and its tires lost all contact with the asphalt.

The driver tried to correct the course, but the truck veered sideways, climbed onto the sidewalk and slammed into the concrete structure supporting the bridge’s steel guardrail.

The impact caused severe damage to the steering system, front suspension and axle, leaving the truck unable to continue or be moved under its own power.

No Injuries Reported

Despite the force of the crash, no one was injured. The driver walked away unhurt and only suffered a nervous reaction to the incident, so paramedics were not needed and no emergency hospital transfers were made.

National Guard officers from the Roads Division arrived at the site to document the crash. They immediately secured the area with warning markers to prevent a rear-end collision and directed traffic through that stretch of Federal Highway 307.

A private tow truck later removed the damaged pickup from the sidewalk and hauled it to an official impound lot, where it will be held while authorities determine responsibility.

National Guard commanders renewed their call for drivers traveling through the Riviera Maya to take extra precautions, particularly during heavy rain.
