Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — The Isla Mujeres government, led by Municipal President Atenea Gómez Ricalde, has announced the program for the "Luz y Vida: Entre Vivos y Muertos" Festival, a cultural space designed to celebrate and preserve traditions and promote the island's culture in all its expressions within the framework of the Day of the Dead.
This festival will take place from Thursday, October 30, to Sunday, November 2, 2025, and will feature a series of activities that will allow island families, tourists, and visitors to enjoy and actively participate in this highly significant festivity for the local identity.
A Celebration of Tradition and Culture
On Thursday, October 30, the event will commence with "Xibalbá" Inframundo at the Municipal Explanada at 7:30 PM. During this ceremony, the coronation of the Luz y Vida Ambassador 2025 will take place, and a pre-Hispanic show will be presented, including diverse artistic manifestations that will showcase the cultural richness of the region.
On Friday, October 31, the Festival de Calaveritas: Noche de las Niñas y Niños will be held, featuring a Calaveritas Parade at 6:30 PM, departing from Stingray to the Municipal Explanada. Subsequently, at 7:30 PM, the Feria de Calaveritas will be set up at the Municipal Explanada, which will include a children's show, a Costume Contest, and artistic presentations designed for children and their families to enjoy a safe and fun environment.
That same day, in the Continental Zone of Ciudad Mujeres, the Hanal Pixan will be celebrated. This event will begin at 12:00 PM at the Domo Hugo Ravell. A Day of the Dead show will be held, traditional altars will be exhibited, and various artistic presentations will take place to bring the tradition closer to all visitors and community neighbors.
On Saturday, November 1, Catrinarte: Festival de Catrinas will be presented, beginning with the "Caminando con las Ánimas" walk at 6:30 PM from Stingray to the Municipal Explanada. Subsequently, at 10:00 PM, the Catrinas Contest will be held, and the night will conclude with the stellar presentation of the show "Esto sí es Despecho," featuring performances by Natalia Sosa, Myriam Montemayor Cruzp, Aranza, and Sheyla, as well as special guest Tatiana, who will offer a spectacle full of music and tradition.
Finally, on Sunday, November 2, Hanal Pixan: Noche de Tradiciones will take place, with a maritime procession at 7:30 PM that will culminate at the Muelle de Madera (Fiscal), where traditional altars will be exhibited and the PIB Contest will be held, accompanied by the Jarana de Las Ánimas and the presentation of the Trovadoras del Mayab at the Municipal Explanada, starting at 9:00 PM.
Atenea Gómez invited all island families and visitors to join this festival, which seeks to reinforce the cultural identity of the destination, strengthen family coexistence, and offer recreational spaces that allow everyone to enjoy traditions in a safe and accessible manner.
