Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — Isla Mujeres will become the only municipality in Quintana Roo to broadcast World Cup matches on giant screens set up directly on the beach, officials announced.

Mayor Atenea Gomez Ricalde said the screenings will be part of the upcoming “Fut Fest” event, which will take place at several locations across Quintana Roo. In Isla Mujeres, the venue will be Playa Centro, adjacent to the boardwalk on the island’s main section.

The event will be entirely family-friendly and free of charge, featuring food options, activities, and contests, Gomez Ricalde said.

The municipality expects a 5% increase in tourist arrivals during the sporting event.

The mayor made the announcement during the launch of the “Child Sexual Exploitation Is a Crime” program, which provides training for officials and raises awareness among citizens and visitors.
