Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — The municipal government of Isla Mujeres, led by Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde, has maintained ongoing efforts to keep its beaches clean, organized, and free of sargassum, according to officials.
Through the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone (ZOFEMAT) authority, the city conducts daily cleaning, monitoring, and maintenance operations. As a result, Playa Norte and Playa Centro remain in optimal condition for local families and the thousands of tourists who visit the island each year, reinforcing its reputation as one of the top beach destinations in the Mexican Caribbean.
These efforts have earned Isla Mujeres the Blue Flag certification for the fifth consecutive time. In addition, both Playa Norte and Playa Centro hold the Platinum Beach certification, which recognizes high standards in environmental quality, cleanliness, safety, and services.
Mayor Gómez Ricalde reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to protecting the island’s natural heritage, promoting responsible tourism, and continuing to offer clean, orderly, high-quality beaches.
