Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — Isla Mujeres commemorated the 32nd anniversary of the Bay Cross Immersion with a floral offering led by Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde, drawing island families and representatives of the nautical sector to the waterfront ceremony.
The underwater religious image, submerged in the bay for more than three decades, has become a symbol of faith, hope, and affection for the island community.
During the event, organizers paid tribute to Ramón Bravo Prieto, a figure remembered for his defense of marine life and the region’s ecosystems. His legacy continues to resonate among islanders, especially those whose lives are intertwined with the sea.
Gómez Ricalde shared images of the gathering on social media and highlighted the significance of the tradition, which has remained alive for over 30 years. The commemoration also underscored the importance of preserving the memory of those who worked to protect the area’s natural heritage.
