Cancún, Quintana Roo — A serious accident occurred on Monday afternoon in the 246th Region of Cancún when two youths, traveling in a Ford Explorer in a complete state of intoxication, lost control and crashed into the wall of a private residence operating as a hardware store.
The incident was reported at approximately 3:00 p.m. via the 911 emergency number. Authorities were called to the scene following reports of a severe collision with a house on the seventh private street, Abedul, in the Villas Otoch subdivision.
Upon arrival, Municipal Police officers found a white Ford Explorer truck embedded head-first into the wall of the "Don Luis" hardware store. Neighbors and the business owner managed to subdue the youths and turned the driver over to the authorities. The passenger left the scene before police arrived.
Thanks to the swift intervention, there were no fatalities, although the vehicle was left with fence posts embedded in its windshield and the structure of the business sustained considerable damage.
The driver was detained and transported to the department of forensic experts as the damages caused by the incident are assessed. The owner of the hardware store refused to allow a tow truck to remove the vehicle until repairs for the damages are guaranteed.
Witnesses reported that the truck entered from Los Tules Avenue onto Abedul private street, lost control, and ended up embedded in the hardware store. The fence posts were left piercing the cabin but did not physically harm the occupants. Neighbors emphasized that the accident could have been fatal but, fortunately, resulted only in some minor injuries to those involved.
Authorities indicated that the procedure will continue in accordance with the law, and the truck will remain impounded until civil liability for the damages caused is resolved. Meanwhile, the area remains under surveillance as officials coordinate the maneuver to remove the unit from the property without causing further damage.
