CDMX, MEX — Reports say, the Federal Government of Mexico has filed a lawsuit against YouTuber MrBeast and the company Full Circle Media, demanding compensation for damages and a public retraction for violating the terms of permits granted to them.

The National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) determined that the American YouTuber made “an illicit use, for private profit, of archaeological heritage that belongs to all Mexicans.”

In a statement published on its website Wednesday evening, INAH condemned “those who, driven by commercial interests and private profit, dare to distort the value of archaeological zones, which are the legacy of our ancestral cultures and the pride of our nation.”

The institute clarified that “the permit issued to Full Circle Media, representing MrBeast, did not authorize the publication of false information or the use of the image of archaeological sites for the advertising of commercial brands for private profit.”

“The nation’s heritage, which by its nature is public, cannot be exploited by commercial enterprises,” the statement asserted. “The separation between political power and economic power is an unwavering principle of the Fourth Transformation.”

“Therefore, INAH has filed an administrative lawsuit against the aforementioned production company,” the announcement concluded.

This decision represents a political blow to Campeche Governor Layda Sansores, who insisted Wednesday that any legal action against MrBeast should be directed at the Campeche government.

The governor even took responsibility for the YouTuber’s incursion into an ancient Mayan temple in Calakmul, where he produced his show—earning millions of dollars across various social media platforms—amid laughter and jokes.
