Valladolid, Yucatán — In an event that combined culture, art, and environmental commitment, the alliance Donia Way & Wayé was inaugurated, and the new cultural space Mundo Way was presented at the Hotel Wayé in Valladolid.
During the ceremony, the Secretary of Tourism Development (Sefotur) presented a recognition to the hotel for having obtained the international Hotel Sustainability Basics distinction, awarded by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC).
The Hotel Wayé thereby becomes the first lodging establishment in Yucatán and one of the first in Mexico to achieve this certification, which accredits compliance with the highest standards of tourism sustainability.
The event was held in the Plaza Wayé, where Mundo Way was inaugurated, a space intended to be a meeting point between art, hospitality, and Yucatecan identity.
Themed Mural on Maya Culture
Among the new features are a thematic mural on Maya culture, sculptures of Donia Way, her inseparable Boxito, the dog Camote, and Way Tún, in addition to a museum-shop that exhibits regional products, artisan pieces, and stories about their cultural value.
Representing Sefotur, the Undersecretary of Sustainable Tourism Development, Raúl Paz Noriega, highlighted that this type of initiative reinforces the vision of Governor Joaquín Díaz Mena to promote sustainable tourism and decentralize the economic benefits of the sector towards the municipalities.
"The encounter between Donia Way and the Hotel Wayé represents the best of two visions that complement each other: the cultural narrative and humor of the character with the conscious hospitality of the hotel," he expressed.
The WTTC distinction validates practices such as the efficient use of resources, the reduction of emissions, responsible waste management, and the promotion of local suppliers, in addition to the creation of experiences that connect the visitor with Yucatecan nature and culture.
The ceremony was attended by municipal authorities, business representatives, and the founders of the Donia Way brand, Ileana Reyes and Javier Covo, who celebrated the alliance as an important step to strengthen tourism with a purpose and the cultural identity of Valladolid.
